Foods You’re Supposed To Eat… or not
July 10, 2008 on 3:05 pm | In life | 1 CommentI’ve been burning so many midnight hours working and juggling the many different things around the house and family that I’m getting a little side-tracked on things like my diet. I should be taking some Phentermine. It’s not only an appetite surpressant it is a kick in the butt for a little energy. I could use a little energy right now. I don’t know about the appetite surpressant part. It isn’t really that I’ve been eating more. It’s that I’ve been eating wrong. Having to prepare foods for my mother in law going through chemo is tough because she’s so picky due to the drugs. The types of foods she WANTS to eat are not good for ME to eat. LOL But I’m too busy lately to cook seperate meals, so… maybe if I had a little more energy I’d burn off the foods I’m not supposed to eat.
The Times of Change
July 7, 2008 on 7:38 pm | In life | 2085 CommentsIf you’re over 30 I bet you can remember a time when there were no cell phones. Okay, maybe over 40. I do. I remember back when all we had was one TV in the house too, and you can bet it wasn’t a LCD TV. There were no flat screens, no high-def, and a ‘big screen’ was one of those huge cumbersome console tv’s — maybe 36″ max. What ever did we do back then? Of course, there were only 4 regular channels too, and public access too if you were good enough at holding the rabbit ears in a certain way. Yes, rabbit ears. No satallite, no cable… just a couple of silly looking wire antennas that sat on top of the TV. Those were the days–not. The one thing that hasn’t changed in all these years is your kids looking at you with great big sad ‘puppy dog’ eyes and saying ‘There’s nothing on TV!’ (All 500 channels.)
A Little Cooperation Please
July 4, 2008 on 2:59 pm | In boers, farm, life, bucks, does | 1522 CommentsI sure wish my goats would learn to cooperate with me just a little bit. I have one… just one single goat that MIGHT be due to kid this summer. In fact in the next couple of weeks. Anytime between now and the 21st if she was already bred when I got her (which I’m seriously hoping she was). If she doesn’t kid in that time frame it will be early fall and it will be my buck’s offspring, which is fine too because they’ll be the first 100% ones born on the property. If she has a kid from the other buck it will be 100% too which is what I want… and a buck… (talk about being specific huh?) which I probably won’t get. My luck it will be a doe kid. Good to have too since it would be an unrelated doe kid to my buck but I really need an unrelated buck kid. Anyway, back to the cooperation… she’s not.
She doesn’t show any signs of being pregnant. I had a goat earlier this year like that. Looked completely normal. Of course, completely normal means big as a tank anyway. Even with being a really big framed goat though she didn’t have the ‘watermellon’ look that you pretty much expect from a goat in the final months. She ended up giving me three kids–so she was definately pregnant wouldn’t you say?
Bowie (the current goat in question) is a large, meaty, big-framed girl too, so there’s plenty of room in there for a kid or two, or three to hide, but the not knowing is just driving me crazy. I wish my goats would cooperate a little and have the decency to LOOK pregnant when they are. Even my vetran doe Polly hid it pretty well this spring, but she always does, and she always only has one kid… One big kid, but just one.
Thankfully all the rest of my girls had the good graces too look like water tankers during the final weeks, so there was no question as to their pregnant status.
A little cooperation from Bowie right now would be really nice.
More Memory
July 4, 2008 on 2:50 pm | In life | 1730 CommentsCan you believe that with a brand new computer, with a whopping 2 gig RAM I am still finding myself running out of memory toward the end of a long day of work. It seems like everytime I get a new computer I’m so impressed with the much larger size of everything and still find myself grasping for more. I need a room-sized computer. My husband really needs a boost in his laptop memory both hard-drive and RAM. His computer boots up SO slow it’s painful, and working on it takes forever because the Random Memory is so small. It’s not even that old. I think it’s about 2 years old. One thing I’ve found in looking around is that even though it sounds scary, adding memory cards is easy. It’s sort of like adding a modem–it sounds a lot scarier than it actually is when you get down to doing it.
Come to think of it, I could use a memory upgrade myself. The older I get the more I forget and slow down too.
Time To Start Thinking About the Possibilities
July 4, 2008 on 2:32 pm | In life | No CommentsI’ve been rather large all my life, but I’ve been working really hard to combat that the last 9 months or so. I haven’t had to wear maternity clothes since I was pregnant but if I don’t keep working on the diet I may have to start looking into it. I was doing great too until this last week when for some reason everything started being too hard to resist and I had these incredible cravings. Um… maybe I need to seriously think about maternity clothes, no joke. I gained 2 pounds last week. That’s just not acceptable, unless I am pregnant. I’m not sure that’s acceptable either though.
Time to get back down to basics. I’d stopped writing down what I was eating, and paying close attention to the kinds of food I was gobbling down. I started working for a new company doing freelance work and with all the hours I’ve been putting in, I let myself get lazy on the food issue.
Time to stop that for sure.

Wow, I came across this picture this morning and thought it was just breath-taking. It’s from National Geographic.com and just takes my breath away. Wouldn’t you just love to see something like that outside your door when you walked out?
