I Need an Aspirin
February 4, 2008 on 4:57 pm | In life | 412 CommentsOkay, this winter is officially getting under my skin. At the very least it’s giving me a headache. I’ve now had two days in a row of horrible driving, and that’s if you don’t count last Friday where I was supposed to take my son to work, but got a few hundred feet from the house and turned around. No way was my life worth his job. LOL.
Yesterday, we all went into town and when we left it was sunny and clear. Lots of snow on the ground but the roads were fine, and all was well, until we left town several hours later. It had apparently just started to snow again. Okay, yippee, but we figured no big deal. Yes… big deal. Big, big, BIG deal. In just a few minutes the snow got so bad you couldn’t see the roads, or more than a couple feet in front of you. It took us an hour and a half to get home from a drive that should have been 15 minutes tops.
I sat in the car after we pulled into the driveway and just had my face in my hands. I wanted to cry. I wasn’t even the one driving on that occassion. I don’t think we would have made it home if I had been. Thankfully Bob was driving and Bobby was hanging out the window keeping an eye on where the edge of the road was as best as possible as we crept along the 55 mile an hour highway at roughly 15 miles an hour.
Today, Bob took Bobby to work. It was foggy and he called me to tell me to be really careful when I picked him up if it was still foggy since he had to go up to Chicago. So at 3 o’clock I set out on what was a true migraine inducing drive. The fog was so bad it looked like a solid wall of white just a few feet in front of the car. The only thing that made it any better than last night at all was that you could at least see the road right in front of the car.
By the time I got home I was ready to cry. I hope it clears up by tomorrow morning. Bob won’t be here and I have to drive Bobby to work at 6 am. I really need an aspirin, AND a vacation now.
Too Late For Sun?
February 1, 2008 on 8:13 pm | In life | 637 CommentsRight about now I need a cheap hotel Las Vegas so I can just go and get away from all this snow. It dropped 8 inches last night on us. As I trudged through the hip high drifts by the barn to feed and water everyone this morning I found myself dreaming about hot desserts. It’s nice to dream about things like that when you’re shoveling out a 900 foot driveway from just under a foot of snow, or carrying water buckets back and forth, but with all the babies due any day now (it’s February!) I couldn’t leave just yet anyway. Maybe come spring… wait, too late. The weather will be getting nice here then.
